Website Scrapping Tutorial with Video

After much thought, I decided against monetizing this newsletter. This was largely driven by the concern that if I did, I would feel obligated to generate significant content regularly. While this might be possible in the short run, before I am the owner of a small business, I think it will be more difficult once I am an owner. Thus, I have decided to release the first bit of content that was going to be a part of the paid subscription, but for free. It’s not the most polished, but I think it’s effective.

If you find this content useful, please do me a favor and share it with others.

For those interested in the mechanics of how I recorded this video, I am including the process I used below.

  1. Buy a Mac, in my case a Macbook Air M1

  2. Use the built-in QuickTime app to record the computer screen and capture the audio, in my case from a Bluetooth earpiece style

  3. Use Apple’s Garage Band app to slightly edit the sound by removing most of the um’s and ah’s while adding a little reverb

  4. Use Apple’s iMovie to slightly edit the video with transitions and titles

  5. Also used Canva for the logo at the beginning

Sure there are better tools, and better equipment to accomplish this, but this was easy didn’t require me to even watch any tutorial videos, and the results are acceptable, especially at the price point I am offering it at.
